A couple months ago while turning down one chick and setting up a chill session with another a question popped in my head that I never took the time to address. As I sat there texting the chick I’ve found myself spending a lot more time with I pondered what must a woman possess to make a guy like me settle down and be committed. I thought about it for a while and here is what I came up with.




The Funny Chick: When I settle down I would need for the women I spend the rest of my life with to be funny or have an amazing sense of humor. No man really wants a dull woman and even if she’s not funny we need to share in the same type of humor. If I like to see bunnies getting blown to smithereens, then the girl I’m with should share in me laughing until tears fall from the ducts of my eyes.

The Do Nothing Chick: We’ve all been in relationships where the only time we could really stand our mates were when we were having sex. Well, in order for me to settle down I need to be able to actually want to be around the person, even if we aren’t doing anything fun. I need to be able to just sit on the couch with her while she’s reading a book, I need to be able to surf the web, while she’s in the bathroom curling and flat ironing her hair. We need to be able to do nothing together, without that why even be together?

The Respect Chick: In order for me to settle down I would have to be able to respect the woman. A lot of times a woman will depend on a man, or use a man, even if she loves them. This often eats at a man’s respect for them. Ladies, a way to maintain your respect is to offer to pay for a dinner, buy a just because gift or a hey I thought you would like this. There is no reason why a woman can’t take the lead in a relationship sometimes.

The Interactive Chick: Another key thing men think about when they settle down is how do we interact with one another? Are we constantly arguing over the dumbest things? Do I find myself calling her outside her name when she’s not around? I’m sorry BUT, I don’t want to argue over things like the toilet seat being left up or for buying Kraft cheese when she wanted sharp cheddar. I would like to have intense debates about the BP Oil Spill and Obama’s response and even “discussions” over what’s going to happen next on True Blood or whatever our favorite show is to watch together.

The Like Me Girl: The bottom line is I need a girl who actually likes me. I need the girl who would pick me out of a crowd of millions so I could be her Prince Charming. This is important to me because at the end of the day if I’m going to settle down that means I like her more than every other girl in the world. These feelings can’t be forced, I don’t want her to settle for me, I don’t want to be an option in her life I forever want to be a priority. I feel like a lot of dates are options. Not doing anything on a Friday night call this one. I never want that to be me, I never want to be just the option.



There are a lot more things men want out of a woman before they settle down, but these things are pretty much standard and men don’t say them all the time. Yet, trust me when I tell you a man has to be able to do nothing with you, in order to do everything with you
